According to Supt Ababio, the Marine Police rescue  team including Corporal Sylvester Adatsi, a rescue swimmer, responded immediately and succeeded in rescuing Fia some minutes later.

He said it was after the rescued man had regained consciousness that he told the police that he had been cheated by his girlfriend, whom he had financially supported to travel outside the country.

According to Supt Ababio, the supposed girlfriend had firmly assured Fia that she would also support him to relocate to her abode, but she had reneged on her promise, hence his attempt to end his life.
